CNN Iran destroyed the intelligence headquarters in Riyadh and Washington is considering reducing its presence in the region

The American network “CNN” reported that Washington is considering reducing its military presence in the Middle East, after the recent confrontations with Iran revealed weaknesses in American infrastructure and bases in the region.

The network quoted American military and intelligence officials as saying that an Iranian attack completely destroyed the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Riyadh, in addition to American military facilities in Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait sustaining severe damage, while repeated missile and drone attacks resulted in the deaths of 18 American soldiers.
According to the network, the Central Intelligence Agency is considering carrying out some sensitive missions in the future without relying on permanent bases, while Pentagon officials refused to specify which facilities could be rebuilt, indicating that this is also linked to the readiness of host countries to contribute to reconstruction costs, after some of those countries funded the construction of a number of bases.
CNN indicated that the US expanded its military and intelligence presence in the region after the September 11 attacks, before returning to engage in Middle East crises, especially after President Donald Trump’s decision to assassinate Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani.
The network quoted analysts as saying that the Iranian leadership may not surrender in the near term and may be prepared to endure months of suffering, keeping American bases and forces in the Gulf exposed to continuous attacks.
In this context, the commander of the US Navy said that American soldiers will not return to the traditional headquarters of the Fifth Fleet in Bahrain anytime soon.
