30ships cross the Strait Reopening of Hormuz after the Xi Trump meeting
Iranian forces reopened the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday for the first time in weeks. This comes amid American movement regarding it in China, Iran’s largest ally.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Iranian media confirmed that Iranian forces allowed the passage of approximately 30 oil and gas ships in recent hours, the majority of which were Chinese.
Iran’s Fars News Agency quoted officials as saying that the decision to allow the passage of Chinese ships was made after coordination between the Chinese foreign minister and the Iranian ambassador in Beijing.
The new batch is the largest and comes during the visit of US President Donald Trump to China.
Trump is focusing during this visit on resolving the file of Hormuz, the most important trade artery in the Gulf.
It is not yet clear whether the Iranian decision was to ease American pressure on China regarding the vital strait or if it carries other messages regarding Iran’s readiness to open the strait according to specific criteria. However, Iranian media’s talk of prior Chinese coordination for ship passage indicates that all countries wishing their ships to pass must first deal with Iranian forces.
