Russian media reported that Saudi Abrams tanks and armored vehicles have been damaged as a result of Yemeni drone attacks, coinciding with the escalation of military operations in Marib, Taiz, and Hudaydah governorates during August 2026, a development that re-highlights the challenges of ground confrontation against low-cost, maneuverable weapons.
These developments come amid indications of Saudi Arabia’s readiness for a new military scenario, which included enhancing its purchases of American weapons, recruiting fighters, and rearranging its influence in Yemeni areas outside Sana’a’s control, after sidelining UAE-backed formations. In response, military reports and analyses indicate that Ansar Allah has developed its capabilities in the field of drones, including FPV drones and others designated for carrying and dropping munitions, enabling the targeting of vehicles and military sites.
