Warnings of worsening health conditions in the Gaza Strip

The director of Nasser Medical Complex, Atef al-Hout, warned of a complete collapse of services provided to patients in the Gaza Strip due to the Israeli occupation’s prevention of the entry of fuel oil for electricity generators. He also called on the international community to intervene urgently to allow the entry of essential supplies for the health sector in Gaza.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza stated that a number of patients are dying daily in hospitals while awaiting travel for treatment, and stressed that patients’ lives cannot endure further delays and time is running out.

It is worth noting that the health sector in the Gaza Strip faces existential challenges that impact the quality of services provided, and a near-total collapse of its infrastructure as a result of years of blockade and repeated wars since October 2023.

International organizations describe the current situation as the death throes of the health system, with epidemics such as hepatitis and gastroenteritis spreading due to the destruction of sanitation facilities, and a lack of services for those with chronic illnesses such as kidney dialysis, heart disease, and diabetes.

Despite a ceasefire agreement reached in the Gaza Strip several months ago, Israel continues to violate the terms of the truce and launches airstrikes that have resulted in the deaths and injuries of hundreds since the signing of the US-brokered ceasefire. Israel also refuses to allow the entry of humanitarian and medical aid stipulated in the ceasefire agreement.
