Raids target oil fields in eastern Yemen
Oil fields in eastern Yemen were subjected to a new air attack on Wednesday. This coincides with their continued control by tribal militants.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
A journalist closes to the head of the Tribal Alliance, Sabri bin Makhashin, reported that violent explosions shook the oil fields in Wadi and the desert of Hadramout a short while ago.
Bin Makhashin clarified that the explosions were the result of airstrikes.
These airstrikes come as tensions continue to surround the oil fields following the refusal of tribal forces to hand them over.
The Tribal Alliance, led by bin Hebrish, has deployed significant reinforcements to the perimeter of the oil fields, which its forces have controlled for days.
They also come in the wake of mediation attempts to de-escalate tensions between the tribes and the Transitional Council.
Media sources confirmed that the latest mediation delegation met with bin Hebrish late on Tuesday evening in an attempt to persuade him to hand over the oil fields.
Bin Hebrish insists on the withdrawal of all Transitional Council factions from Hadramout.
Transitional Council factions had begun an operation this morning to storm the cities of the oil plateau and managed to seize control of them, except for the oil fields where tribal forces are stationed.
In recent hours, tribal forces have engaged in clashes with Transitional Council factions on multiple fronts, preventing the Transitional Council from advancing into them.
