Gaza Municipality 270 areas a refugee camp and a shelter at risk of flooding as winter approaches

The spokesperson for Gaza Municipality, Hosni Mahna, warned about the risks of winter arriving in the city amid the widespread destruction of infrastructure, especially the rainwater drainage system. He emphasized that the exceptional conditions the Strip is living through make the impact of weather lows on residents and displaced people more dangerous.

Mahna said that around one million people are concentrated in just 30% of the city’s area, which puts enormous pressure on a crumbling infrastructure. He pointed out that the war machinery destroyed 135 heavy vehicles, equivalent to 85% of the municipality’s fleet, in addition to a severe shortage of spare parts and fuel. This has led to a reduced operational capacity for the municipality to handle more than 4,000 complaints per month, with expectations for this number to rise as the weather lows begin.
