How to make Israel to southern Lebanon uninhabitable

The Tasnim International News Agency reported that a visual investigation conducted by the British newspaper, the Financial Times, in collaboration with the non-profit Lighthouse Reports Foundation, revealed systematic destruction carried out by the Israeli occupation army in southern Lebanon, encompassing tens of thousands of homes, schools, agricultural lands, and forests.

An analysis of satellite imagery, available data, and documented footage showed that most of the damage occurred after Israeli forces seized control of the evacuated villages in mid-April, rendering vast areas uninhabitable and destroying essential infrastructure for civilian life, from water and energy facilities to medical care. Legal experts and human rights organizations have confirmed that this tactic is designed to prevent the return of residents.

In this context, Amnesty International’s Deputy Director, Christine Beckerle, affirmed that this is “a widespread, long-term, and systematic attack on the people of southern Lebanon,” noting that the leveling of vital infrastructure and healthcare facilities, along with the scorched earth tactics, creates “barren, uninhabitable landscapes, making it extremely difficult for people to return to southern Lebanon.”

Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced weeks after the outbreak of the latest war that the “Rafah and Beit Hanoun model” would be implemented to completely destroy Lebanese border villages. He boasted that by July, all buildings in 24 Lebanese villages, some dating back hundreds of years, had been destroyed, along with up to 20,000 homes.

The investigation revealed that most of the destruction occurred after the initial ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel on April 17. Israeli forces, having already seized control of the abandoned villages, continued to destroy southern Lebanon through airstrikes, controlled explosions, bulldozers, and the use of white phosphorus.
