Gaza launches an emergency

The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip announced the launch of an urgent emergency plan, led by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, in cooperation with other government ministries and institutions, as well as international and UN agencies operating in the Strip. The plan aims to evacuate and demolish dilapidated and structurally unsound buildings, which pose a serious threat to the lives of citizens and displaced persons residing in or near these buildings.

The plan targets approximately 255 buildings at risk of collapse, as part of government measures designed to mitigate risks, protect lives, and provide a safer environment for affected families. This comes at a time when Gaza is facing extremely difficult field and humanitarian conditions.

The relevant ministries have issued directives to immediately begin implementing the evacuation plan. This includes issuing official notices to owners of dangerous buildings requiring their evacuation, placing signs and warnings to prevent access to these buildings, and providing temporary shelter for families affected by the evacuations.

The plan is being implemented through government coordination between the Ministries of Public Works and Housing, Social Development, and Local Government, along with the Civil Defense, the Palestinian Police, and other government agencies. Relevant bodies have been tasked with preparing urgent field reports documenting the surveys, evacuations, and measures taken to protect residents.

On the ground, specialized government committees are continuing to assess the condition of buildings and register the families residing in them. Teams from the Ministry of Social Development have conducted inspection tours in several areas, during which they were able to identify dozens of displaced families living in buildings at risk.
