The American escalation coincides with anticipation of the results of an Iranian-Gulf meeting regarding the strait.
The anticipated meeting is being held tomorrow in the Sultanate of Oman with the participation of Gulf countries and Iraq.
Iranian officials confirmed that the meeting will discuss the outcome of the Iranian-Omani agreement regarding entry and exit routes, which is also expected to be signed tomorrow.
The agreement includes closing the southern route of the strait, which is supervised by the US administration, something the Trump administration rejects.
The American escalation comes despite Washington’s acknowledgment of losing the battle of the strait.
American forces have reduced the escort operation for ships transiting the strait to only two periods.
American media attributed the step to the high costs of aerial escort, estimated at about $75,000 per sortie.
Although America has identified a wide target bank in its war on Iran, the current focus is on Hormuz, especially as global oil prices are affected by the war on Iran.
