The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for the immediate entry of medicines and essential supplies into the besieged Gaza Strip to begin the large-scale reconstruction of health services.

This came in a post by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on the American company X’s platform on Thursday evening, commenting on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which has been under Israeli blockade for nearly two decades and tightened in the last three years.

Ghebreyesus explained that the organization supported the establishment of a new family health center in northern Gaza, where health services are extremely limited and inaccessible to a large segment of the population.

He stated that the center contributes to delivering health services directly to the people, emphasizing that “the health needs across Gaza are immense.”

Ghebreyesus called for the immediate entry of medicines and essential supplies into the Strip to begin the large-scale reconstruction of health services.

The UN official stressed the need to remove bureaucratic obstacles imposed on essential medicines and lift restrictions on access to Gaza. Israel has been blockading the Gaza Strip since 2007, and about 1.5 million Palestinians out of approximately 2.4 million in the Strip have become homeless after the war of extermination destroyed their homes.
