The Director of the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility in the Gaza Strip, Engineer Munther Shablak, warned on Sunday of the collapse of the water and sanitation system due to the Israeli enemy’s prevention of the entry of equipment oils and spare parts into the Strip since before the ceasefire agreement on October 10th.

Engineer Shablak issued an urgent appeal to international partner organizations to allow the entry of these materials, warning of the serious problems that would result from the collapse of the water and sanitation system, most notably the spread of epidemics and diseases among the residents of the Gaza Strip, especially in displacement and refugee camps throughout the Strip.

He said: “The Coastal Municipalities Water Utility issued a distress call regarding the prevention of the entry of generator oils and spare parts. The last time these materials were allowed in to continue operating the electricity generators was before the ceasefire agreement, which has led to a complete halt in the process of maintaining the generators and supplying them with oil to keep them running.”

He pointed out that since the Israeli announcement of cutting off all electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip, there has been total reliance on electricity generators to operate what remains of the water and sanitation facilities, in addition to operating mobile equipment and machinery, such as tanks and the mobile pumping station, which helped to reach a minimum level of continuity of water services for the residents of displacement areas and places of refuge, and what remains of the residents of some areas, especially in the Gaza and Central governorates.
