He explained that before the war, the city needed about 100,000 cubic meters of water per day to meet the needs of the residents, while only about 30,000 cubic meters are currently available. He added that the infrastructure was destroyed, which included the destruction of about 85% of the central wells, and more than 150,000 linear meters of water networks, in addition to the suspension of the main desalination plant, which covered about 10% of the city’s needs. He pointed out that this deterioration led to more than one million people suffering from a severe water shortage, and for them to wait for long hours to obtain limited quantities, in light of the high temperatures and the increase in the number of displaced people. According to Muhanna, the crisis was exacerbated by several factors, most notably the destruction of infrastructure, the lack of fuel needed to operate wells and pumping stations, preventing the entry of pumps, spare parts, sterilization materials and generators, in addition to the frequent interruption of supplies coming through a company. “Microot”, the significant increase in the population within the city.
