Warnings of the risk of the health system in Gaza collapsing

The Palestinian NGO Network in the Gaza Strip warned that the health system is on the verge of complete collapse due to restrictions on the entry of essential supplies and equipment needed to operate hospitals and health facilities. The network emphasized that the sector is on the brink of being unable to provide basic services. It stated that “the health system in Gaza is struggling to survive,” warning that its operations are threatened with paralysis and cessation, despite nearly a year having passed since the ceasefire agreement, due to the continued restrictions on humanitarian work and medical supplies.

The network explained that the restrictions include fuel, petroleum products, mineral oils, generators, solar power systems, spare parts, and medical and non-medical equipment and supplies, threatening the hospitals’ ability to continue providing services. The network pointed out that these conditions come after the health system suffered extensive damage during the war, affecting its infrastructure and personnel. It noted that 28 out of 35 hospitals in the Gaza Strip were partially or completely destroyed. She added that the restrictions on the entry of supplies come in conjunction with what she described as the continued failure to adhere to the agreed quantities of aid and fuel needed for vital sectors, as repeatedly confirmed by the Government Media Office in Gaza.
