UNICEF Lebanese children have lived through experiences no child should have to go through

UNICEF warned of the continued humanitarian suffering of children in Lebanon more than 100 days into the conflict, noting that 247 children have been killed and 992 others injured since March, amid urgent calls for a sustained cessation of hostilities, protection of children, and ensuring their access to basic services.

In a statement regarding the continued suffering of children in Lebanon after more than 100 days of conflict, UNICEF Representative in Lebanon, Marco Luigi Corsi, stressed the need to give Lebanese children “the opportunity not only to survive this crisis, but to recover from it and rebuild a future that has been jeopardized by the ongoing conflict.”

He added: “For more than three months, children in Lebanon have endured experiences no child should ever have to go through. Many have been displaced from their homes multiple times, witnessed violence firsthand, lost loved ones, and seen their schools, communities, and sense of security crumble before their eyes.”

He continued: “Behind these shocking numbers are the stories of children who have lost their lives or whose lives have been forever altered, and families facing immense losses, trauma, and uncertainty.”

However, the UNICEF representative stated that these figures alone do not convey the full scale of this crisis. “Besides the children who were killed or injured, there is an entire generation whose childhood has been affected. And the sense of security that children have, which is a fundamental right that every child needs to grow and thrive, continues to be deeply undermined.”
