The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that at least 67 children in the Gaza Strip have been killed in incidents related to the Israeli escalation since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10.
UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Perez told a press conference in Geneva on Friday that data recorded by UNICEF indicates that approximately two children are killed daily in the Strip despite the continuation of the truce, adding that dozens of other children have been injured during the same period.
Perez explained that these figures “reflect a very worrying reality regarding the level of threat that children in Gaza continue to face,” noting that the ongoing violence and violations confirm that the ceasefire has not provided adequate protection for the population, particularly the most vulnerable groups. Data from the Gaza Ministry of Health indicates that violations by the Israeli army since the ceasefire took effect have resulted in the deaths of 312 Palestinians and injuries to approximately 760 others, including a large number of women and children, reinforcing fears of a deteriorating humanitarian situation despite the declared truce.
