US President Donald Trump on Saturday played down Saudi Arabia’s talk about a wide escalation in Yemen, amid attempts by Bin Salman to court his administration for support.
Exclusive — Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Trump posted a tweet on his page on social media platforms in parallel with the publication of an interview of his with “Time” magazine in which he affirms that Saudi Arabia is incapable of doing anything in Yemen.
Trump adds that without him, there would be no existence for Saudi Arabia in the first place, affirming that it has exhausted his support for it with his talk about protecting Saudi Arabia himself and providing all support to it.
Trump’s statements came on the eve of American reports about his rejection of a new Saudi request to engage in a new war on Yemen.
American media outlets reported that Trump’s National Security team held a meeting at Camp David to discuss files including Yemen, affirming that President Trump still rejects any direct engagement in the Saudi war.
The movements in the US come to the rhythm of new Saudi attempts to convince Trump to support it in its war on Yemen.
Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman made a call to the US Secretary of Defense to discuss new support, but subsequent statements by the commander of the Central Command renewed their affirmation of the lack of desire for direct engagement in the war and contenting with helping Saudi Arabia, justifying that by keeping the American forces occupied away from their battle in Iran.
Saudi Arabia had leaked earlier today information about its arrangement for a battle in Yemen, but the leaks also carried contradictions between talk of limited strikes and a wide battle, which indicates Saudi Arabia’s inability to finalize its decision in light of the American reluctance
