Thirsting Gaza A Continuing Covert Zionist War

While cameras focus on destruction and bombardment, Gaza is waging another war, no less deadly, but silent and slow: a war of thirst.

The systematic targeting of water wells, the destruction of water networks, and the prevention of fuel and maintenance have transformed water from a basic human right into a tool of pressure and collective punishment.

From Gaza City in the north to the displaced persons’ tents in the Khan Younis area in the south, the outlines of a Zionist policy are being revealed, one that uses thirst as a hidden weapon, exhausting the population and exacerbating their suffering away from the clamor of images, in one of the most dangerous chapters of the war on life in the Gaza Strip.

Recent data published in the aftermath of the war and the catastrophic humanitarian events in the Gaza Strip indicate a sharp decline in the per capita share of water to levels far below basic needs.

According to official data from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics and the Palestinian Water Authority, the average daily per capita share of water in the Gaza Strip ranges between only 3 and 5 liters, and this amount varies depending on the level of destruction in each area within the Strip.

Gaza Municipality spokesperson Hosni Muhanna stated that the Israeli occupation is waging a covert and systematic war against Gaza City by targeting the water sector, leaving hundreds of thousands of residents thirsty and depriving them of their most basic human rights. He described this as one of the most dangerous forms of collective punishment, largely invisible to the media.
