The Israeli army continued its demolition of homes and destruction of facilities in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip on the 111th day of the ceasefire agreement, in yet another violation of the truce.
Israeli artillery shelled northern Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, coinciding with heavy gunfire.
In Khan Younis, also in the southern Gaza Strip, Israeli forces carried out demolition operations, and tanks and helicopters fired heavily east and south of the city.
Israeli vehicles also opened fire near Morag, north of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
A number of Palestinians were wounded by Israeli army fire in the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours.
The ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip has entered a highly sensitive phase, amid escalating fundamental disagreements regarding the priority of disarmament versus the immediate commencement of reconstruction.
Regarding the health and humanitarian situation, Zaher Al-Wahidi, head of the Information Systems Unit at the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, stated that the ministry has recorded nine cases of meningitis, suggesting that the actual number of undetected cases is likely higher.
Al-Wahidi explained to Al-Ghad that the living conditions in tents, water contamination, and malnutrition contribute to the rapid spread of epidemics. He noted that the ministry has directed that comprehensive examinations be conducted for all those arriving at emergency departments with symptoms similar to meningitis.
He confirmed that treatment for meningitis is currently available at the ministry, but it is insufficient to treat a large number of patients. He warned that the health sector urgently needs intervention to provide the necessary tests to monitor the disease before it develops into an epidemic.
In the same context, Al-Wahidi revealed that the shortage of medicines has reached 52%, while the shortage of medical supplies has reached 71%. He
