A shortage of laboratory supplies in Gaza is hampering testing and threatening blood banks

The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed in a statement that blood banks in Gaza Strip hospitals are facing a real crisis, warning that the lives of patients are in imminent danger, particularly in emergency departments, pediatric departments, intensive care units, and those with kidney failure.

The most prominent risks threatening this sector, according to the Ministry, include:

Blood bank services in hospitals are threatened with a complete halt due to the unavailability of laboratory supplies and blood transfusion equipment.

A severe shortage of medical supplies in laboratories further complicates the crisis, along with the acute shortage of blood units and components.

It is impossible to receive or transfuse any blood units or components without laboratory supplies.

The obstruction of meeting the urgent needs of vital departments and conducting laboratory tests, with the increasing number of wounded.

The Ministry indicated that the continuation of this situation threatens the lives of hundreds of patients, particularly in emergency departments, intensive care units, pediatric nurseries, and patients with kidney failure and blood diseases.

It also appealed to international and humanitarian agencies to quickly intervene to secure the necessary supplies and equipment to ensure the continued operation of blood banks and laboratories in Palestinian hospitals.
