What is the secret of the FPV drones that are disturbing the occupation forces in Southern Lebanon
Exclusive Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Field reports and military analyses have indicated that Hezbollah’s possession of FPV suicide drones has brought about a qualitative shift in the nature of the ongoing war in southern Lebanon, in light of these aircraft’s reliance on new technologies that make their detection or handling extremely difficult.
These drones rely on a thin fiber-optic cable instead of traditional wireless communication systems, granting them a high ability to remain undetected, making them unidentifiable by radar systems or electronic jamming, and this method also leads to the absence of any electronic fingerprint through which the launch site can be determined.
These drones are equipped with cameras transmitting a live feed to the operator, operate at a relatively low cost of no more than a few hundred dollars, and have an operational range estimated between 20 and 50 kilometers.
In the same context, Israeli Channel 12 quoted soldiers operating in southern Lebanon as saying that the nature of operational activity has “fundamentally changed” due to what they described as the threat of this type of explosive-laden drone, noting the immense difficulty in detecting them or identifying their positions in advance, which makes intercepting them more complex.
It added that this threat has significantly impacted the operational methods of Israeli forces in the area in light of what she described as a state of constant caution and anticipation, where soldiers are forced to continuously monitor the airspace due to the inability to predict where these drones might appear.
The channel also pointed out that these drones were developed during the ceasefire period, and dealing with them still poses a field and technical challenge in the absence of effective solutions so far to reduce their danger.
