As a Result of Yemeni Operations and Blockade Saudi Oil Supplies Fall to Their Lowest Level in Over 3 Decades

The International Energy Agency reported today, Friday, that Saudi Arabia’s crude oil supplies decreased by 2.3 million barrels per day on a monthly basis, reaching 6 million barrels per day in August, the lowest level of supplies in over three decades. This is a result of the operations carried out by Sana’a against Saudi oil facilities, as well as the naval blockade on the Kingdom’s navigation.

The agency explained in its monthly report that the decline came following the Yemeni Armed Forces’ targeting of ships transiting the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait, the Jazan refinery, and shipping movement near Yanbu.
The International Energy Agency’s assessment of Saudi oil supplies in August shows a decrease from Riyadh’s estimates submitted to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The Kingdom informed the organization of supplying 7.122 million barrels per day during the month, and producing 6.238 million barrels per day, a figure close to the agency’s estimates.
The term “supply” in the oil industry refers to the amount of crude reaching the market, including the country’s total oil exports, including shipments drawn from inventories, plus domestic consumption within refineries and power plants.
Based on these data, the International Energy Agency lowered its forecast for Saudi crude supplies during 2026 by 885,000 barrels per day, to reach 7.6 million barrels per day, indicating a delay in production recovery in the Gulf region.
Saudi crude shipments, including those from the Red Sea and undeclared shipments, also fell by 1.1 million barrels per day on a monthly basis, to reach 3.5 million barrels per day, coinciding with a decline in inventories by 400,000 barrels per day.
