Prisoners institutions 9 300 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons including dozens of women and hundreds of children

Palestinian prisoners’ rights organizations reported that Israeli occupation authorities are holding approximately 9,300 Palestinian prisoners in their jails, the majority of whom are detainees or held under administrative detention, according to a joint statement issued Tuesday.

The statement, based on data from the Israeli Prison Service as of early December, clarified that this figure does not include detainees held in military camps.

The organizations indicated that the number of convicted prisoners is 1,254, while the number of female prisoners is 51, including two children. The number of child prisoners is approximately 350, held in Ofer and Megiddo prisons.

The statement noted that the number of administrative detainees has risen to 3,350, while the number of detainees classified by the occupation as “unlawful combatants” is 1,220. It emphasized that this figure does not include all detainees from the Gaza Strip held in Israeli military camps.

Prisoner support organizations added that this classification also includes Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

Human rights reports and documented testimonies from released prisoners confirm that Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli prisons are subjected to grave violations, including beatings, torture, rape, starvation, and denial of healthcare, especially those who are ill.
