The “Head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs” in Sana’a, Abdulqader Al-Murtada, revealed that the delay in implementing the prisoner exchange agreement reached in Muscat is due to “the existence of deep differences among the parties affiliated with Saudi Arabia regarding the implementation of the deal.” He pointed out that some of those parties seek implementation while others work to obstruct the process “for their own political calculations.”
Sana’a – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Al-Murtada explained that “the process of exchanging lists has always represented the most difficult stage in previous agreements due to the multiplicity of parties holding prisoners on the other side.”
The Head of the Committee affirmed their full readiness for implementation, indicating that the prisoner rosters from Sana’a’s side were prepared before the latest Muscat round and that the current delay in submitting the lists “is not from the Committee.”
He emphasized that the agreement was concluded on the basis of “full implementation, not partial,” expressing his hope that the United Nations’ efforts in the coming period would help advance this humanitarian file.
The Muscat agreement, signed by Sana’a and the coalition parties, stipulated the implementation of a wide-ranging exchange deal on January 27, involving “1700 of our prisoners in exchange for 1200 of their prisoners, including 7 Saudis and 23 Sudanese.”
