The Prisoners’ Media Office of the Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas” revealed that the number of Palestinian female prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons has risen to 59, following the arrest of more than 680 women since October 7, 2023.

In a press statement issued Wednesday, the office clarified that among the female prisoners are minors, emphasizing that this figure does not include detainees from the Gaza Strip whose fate remains unknown within military camps.

The statement indicated that the list of female prisoners includes two women with cancer, two minors, and one who gave birth in prison. The majority of the detainees face charges of “incitement,” and approximately one-third are held under administrative detention without charges.

The office noted that the female prisoners are subjected to harsh detention conditions, including malnutrition and medical neglect, in addition to raids, repression, solitary confinement, and violations of privacy. This comes amidst the continued detention of female journalists and other media figures, and the use of women as a means of exerting pressure on their families. According to official institutions, Israeli authorities continue to detain approximately 9,350 Palestinians in their prisons as of the beginning of January.
