The Palestinian government called on Tuesday for urgent international intervention to address the outbreak of serious diseases among displaced people in the Gaza Strip, amid a sharp deterioration in health and environmental conditions resulting from the Israeli offensive.
This came during the government’s weekly meeting in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, according to a statement from the Government Communication Center.
The statement said that the situation in the Gaza Strip is on the verge of a health catastrophe due to water pollution and Israel’s destruction of sewage networks, in addition to the spread of rodents and mosquitoes resulting from the accumulation of waste and the prevention of the entry of hygiene and health supplies.
It called on international bodies to “intervene urgently to secure medical and preventative supplies, in order to limit the spread of epidemics among the displaced.”
Earlier on Tuesday, UNRWA said in a statement published on the platform of the American company X that “Palestinians in Gaza are increasingly suffering from skin infections resulting from the spread of rats, mice, lice, fleas, and mites.”
