Former US Official Agreements with Washington will not change the reality of Iran s permanent control over the Strait of Hormuz
The former US official and envoy to Lebanon, Amos Hochstein, stated on Friday that Iran will impose its permanent control over the Strait of Hormuz and that this reality will not change even if agreements or understandings are reached with Washington.
Exclusive Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
The American official and politician Hochstein explained in a statement that “the Gulf countries are now dealing with the fact that Tehran possesses an influential capability over navigation movement in the strait, which has pushed them to accelerate alternatives such as pipelines and infrastructure to secure oil exports away from Hormuz.”
He pointed out that the tensions led to a complete halt of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas exports and the disruption of oil exports for both Kuwait and Bahrain, while Saudi Arabia and the UAE managed to maintain part of their exports via land routes.
The former US official noted a gap between the official oil price (around $110) and the actual traded price, estimating it to be between $150 and $170 per barrel.
He warned that energy disruptions have already begun to affect poor and emerging countries and may later extend to middle-income countries and then to Western economies.
