The occupation has arrested 23 000 Palestinians since October 2023

The Palestinian Prisoners Club (a non-governmental organization) stated that the number of documented arrests of Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem has exceeded 23,000 since the start of the war on Gaza.

In a statement, the Club clarified that this figure does not include the thousands of Palestinians arrested by the Israeli occupation forces in Gaza, who remain subjected to enforced disappearance.

The data includes all those arrested, whether they remain in detention or have been released, including those arrested from their homes, at military checkpoints, those forced to surrender under duress, and those held as hostages.

The number of Palestinian women arrested has reached over 700, including women arrested from the territories occupied in 1948, as well as from Gaza and the West Bank. The number of child arrests has reached approximately 1,800.

The Israeli occupation targeted journalists, with more than 240 arrests recorded since the war on Gaza. Forty-three remain in detention, including three female journalists. Journalist Marwan Harzallah, from Nablus in the northern West Bank, also died in Israeli custody.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club noted that the ongoing arrest campaigns, coinciding with the ongoing Israeli offensive, are accompanied by escalating violations, including torture, severe beatings, threats against detainees and their families, widespread destruction of homes, confiscation of vehicles, money, and gold jewelry, and extensive damage to infrastructure, particularly in the refugee camps of Tulkarm and Jenin.

In addition to these arrest campaigns, the occupation forces carry out extrajudicial killings, sometimes targeting family members of detainees, and have intensified field interrogations, affecting thousands across the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

According to the club’s data as of the beginning of April, Israel is currently holding more than 9,600 prisoners, including 86 female prisoners and about 350 children, an increase of 83% compared to their number before the
