Observers and activists commented on Saudi Arabia’s announcement of forming a new international coalition to protect its ships in the Red Sea, recalling the great paradox between the declared objectives of its coalition yesterday and today.
They pointed out in posts on social media platforms the radical shift in Saudi rhetoric and objectives. In 2015, Riyadh formed a massive military coalition under the banner of “defeating the Houthis and restoring legitimacy to Sana’a.” Today, in 2026, it returns to announce a new coalition under the banner of “protecting its ships in the Red Sea.” They considered that between the two titles lies a complete story reflecting the scale of failure and strategic incapacity.
