The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor reported that Dr. Hussam Abu Safieh, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, sustained recent and prominent injuries to his head, around his eyes, ears, and neck while imprisoned in the Israeli prison of Raqqaft. These injuries initially made him difficult to identify.
In a post on its X platform on Sunday, the Monitor stated, “According to lawyer Nasser Odeh, who visited Dr. Abu Safieh in Raqqaft prison, his client sustained recent and prominent injuries to his head, around his eyes, ears, and neck, to the point that he was initially unrecognizable.”
Israeli forces arrested Dr. Abu Safieh on December 27, 2024, during a raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital, which was operating under wartime conditions.
The imprisoned doctor suffers from chronic illnesses, including heart problems and high blood pressure. His health has deteriorated during his detention, prompting calls from international human rights and medical organizations for his safety and the provision of necessary medical care
