Heavy Israeli airstrikes on the Lebanese Bekaa Valley

On Thursday evening, Israeli warplanes launched a series of intense airstrikes targeting the Ras al-Assi Valley in the Hermel region of Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, without any prior warning.
Lebanese media reported that the airstrikes were carried out suddenly and concentrated on the valley, resulting in loud explosions that were heard throughout the area and caused widespread panic among residents. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
This bombing comes amid escalating Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement in effect since late November 2014. Israeli forces continue to carry out airstrikes and sporadic attacks on various Lebanese regions, particularly in the south.
The targeting of the Hermel region in the Bekaa Valley is a significant development, as it is located far from the usual theater of operations in the south. This reflects the expanding scope of Israeli aggression and its attempt to impose new security realities, in clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for a cessation of hostilities and respect for Lebanese sovereignty.
