The heat wave turns Gaza s tents into inflamed furnaces

Displaced families in the Gaza Strip are facing dire conditions as the heatwave intensifies, exacerbated by power outages and water shortages.
The canvas and plastic tents in shelters in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, have become sweltering ovens, trapping heat inside and making it virtually impossible to remain inside during the daytime.
This suffering is compounded for the sick and injured living in the camps scattered throughout the region.
In a report by Al Jazeera, one patient, who relies on oxygen cylinders to breathe, describes his daily agony, saying he dies thirty times a day due to the extreme heat and shortness of breath.
He emphasizes that exhausted bodies cannot endure these conditions inside a tent lacking even the most basic ventilation.
In the same vein, mothers are making strenuous efforts to cool their children with meager amounts of water, which relatives collect with great difficulty.
One displaced woman says that the tent becomes an inferno from seven in the morning until well into the afternoon, forcing her to pour water over the heads of her young children to alleviate the heat.
The Palestinian woman adds that adults can endure the hardships, but children lack the patience.
Faced with this harsh reality, thousands of displaced people have found refuge on the Deir al-Balah beach, their only escape from the scorching heat of the tents and the stings of insects.
Despite the ongoing security risks, men, women, and children flock to the water in search of a cool breeze and a few hours of respite, a testament to the resilience of the people of Gaza in clinging to life and confronting the harshest of conditions.
