Recent satellite images have revealed ongoing activity by the Israeli occupation army, consisting of extensive bulldozing and debris removal operations in western Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, along the Morag military axis and near two Israeli military outposts.

The images, taken between December 2, 2025, and January 26, 2020, show that the activity was not limited to the removal of rubble, but rather involved the systematic leveling of land that had previously been subjected to extensive demolition during the war and the ceasefire.

An analysis by Al Jazeera’s Digital Investigations team concluded that the occupation’s movements in this area are more than random and suggest the implementation of a planned Israeli project. The bulldozing area covers approximately 1.3 square kilometers around the military outposts where the army is stationed. The data from the image analysis corroborates a report by Reuters quoting retired Israeli General Amir Avivi, who confirmed that land in southern Gaza is being prepared for the construction of a camp for Palestinians, which will likely be equipped with surveillance and facial recognition technology at its entrance. Avivi added that the camp would be established in the Rafah area after it is cleared of tunnels, and would be supervised by Israeli personnel who would manage entry and exit procedures.

Avivi continued that the Rafah area is currently devoid of Gaza residents and needs infrastructure to be built to accommodate them, after which they can choose whether or not to leave.

The agency explained that Israel wants the number of those leaving to exceed the number entering, adding that the Egyptians insist on an equal ratio and fear this is an attempt to encourage emigration from Gaza.
