The New York Times reported today, Friday, the downing of an American A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft in the Arabian Gulf region near the Strait of Hormuz.
Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
The newspaper quoted two American officials who requested anonymity that the incident occurred at approximately the same time as the downing of another F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet over Iranian airspace, where one crew member was rescued, while search operations are still ongoing for another individual.
The officials explained that the A-10 “Warthog” aircraft crashed under circumstances whose details have not yet been revealed, indicating that information about the location of the incident and how it occurred remains limited so far.
The A-10 model, known as the “Warthog,” is considered one of the most prominent attack aircraft in the American arsenal, dedicated to supporting ground forces, making its loss of significant military importance, especially as it coincides with the F-15E fighter jet incident over Iranian airspace.
These developments come in the context of rapidly accelerating regional escalation, with increasing reciprocal military operations and airstrikes in several areas, raising fears of the expanding scope of confrontation in the Gulf and the Middle East in the coming period.
