The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) revealed on Monday that approximately 79,000 people in Gaza are seeking refuge in its emergency shelters.
UNRWA stated in a post on its X platform that “around 79,000 people in the Gaza Strip are seeking refuge in UNRWA emergency shelters and surrounding areas.”
The UN agency confirmed that tens of thousands of displaced families in Gaza have taken shelter in flimsy tents and overcrowded sites, surrounded by destruction. Many of the displaced are suffering from severe access restrictions, and the agency noted that the humanitarian needs of the displaced remain immense.
A ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip came into effect on October 10, following a two-year Israeli offensive. However, the Israeli army continues to violate the agreement daily and prevents the entry of most humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
