Civil Defense Israeli shelling prevents rescue of wounded trapped in Gaza City

Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal confirmed Sunday evening that their teams were unable to reach areas east of Gaza City because they were within the range of “merciless” Israeli attacks.

He spoke of “significant indications” of dead, wounded, and trapped people in the city located in the northern Gaza Strip.

Basal warned in a statement that “any talk of the Israeli occupation withdrawing from areas in the neighborhoods of Zeitoun, Tuffah, and Shuja’iyya (east of the city) is completely false.”

He explained that “what happened was only a very limited withdrawal of vehicles, and the occupation is covering them with fire as far as Salah al-Din Street” along the areas east of Gaza City.

Basal called on Palestinians to “absolutely avoid reaching Salah al-Din Street.”

He warned that “anyone who approaches there is exposed to direct, merciless targeting.”

While Basal confirmed that there are “significant indications of dead, wounded, and trapped people in those areas,” he said, “We are unable to reach them.”

He also urged “citizens located west of Salah El-Din Street not to climb onto roofs, sit in front of houses, or take pictures from windows.”
