A dangerous increase in meningitis cases among Gaza children

Hundreds of children in the Gaza Strip have been infected with meningitis, threatening a health disaster, especially since it is a highly contagious and highly infectious disease.

Commenting on the spread of the disease among children in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Mohammed Abu Afash, Director of Medical Relief in the Gaza Strip, said that this dangerous disease is becoming increasingly widespread and is transmitted through contaminated water and weakened immune systems.

He added in statements to Al-Ghad that dozens of children are admitted to hospitals daily due to this disease. He explained that there are two types of this disease: bacterial and viral. The largest number currently are those infected with bacterial infections, which can lead to the death of many children.

Abu Afash stressed that there are currently no antibiotics, nutrients, or immunity boosters for these children to be able to endure the hardships of this disease, which could kill them day after day. He stressed that the conditions are ripe for the spread of the disease due to high temperatures, the lack of clean water, the lack of immunity and proper nutrition for children, and the lack of detergents. He pointed out that combating this disease requires well-equipped hospitals and specialized medical teams working continuously. He also noted that the danger is that if this disease spreads in an area, the infection will spread quickly among its residents.
