The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate recorded a significant increase in the scale and severity of Israeli violations against Palestinian journalists during January.

According to documentation by the Syndicate’s Committee for Freedoms, the violations ranged from killings, arrests, shootings, threats with weapons, detention, and prevention of coverage, to physical assaults, targeting of media institutions, and confiscation of journalistic equipment.

The data documented the killing of three journalists while performing their duties in the Gaza Strip, continuing the policy of directly targeting media crews. Six cases of direct gunfire against journalists and eight cases of threats with weapons were also recorded, posing a real threat to their lives.

The report documented 42 cases of detention and obstruction of journalistic work, the highest number among all violations. The report also documented 21 instances in which occupation forces fired stun grenades and tear gas at journalists, resulting in several cases of suffocation.

The Committee recorded three cases of direct physical assault on journalists, in addition to seven cases of confiscation and destruction of journalistic equipment, in attempts to obstruct the reporting of the truth and prevent the documentation of violations.

The report also documented four attacks carried out by settlers against journalists, including preventing coverage, obstructing work, and attempting to steal filming equipment, all in the absence of any protection for media crews.

Two cases of media outlets being closed were also recorded, as part of a policy of restricting media outlets, along with the imposition of fines on
