Iran’s Fars News Agency confirmed that a warship was hit as the Revolutionary Guard intercepted an American attempt to advance through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Reuters news agency had quoted an Iranian official confirming that Iranian forces fired warning shots towards an American military convoy near Hormuz.
These latest developments came as US President Donald Trump launched a new operation he called “Project Freedom.”
The American operation, according to Trump, aimed to liberate oil ships stuck in the maritime strait.
According to a Central Command statement, US forces allocated more than 100 aircraft, nearly 15,000 soldiers, and several missile destroyers for the mission.
The operation, launched this morning, was supposed to achieve success by forcibly reopening the strait, but the US president tried to avoid the scandal of what his forces were exposed to by claiming the success of securing the passage of two American ships.
