Military experts and analysts have confirmed that the naval confrontations witnessed in the Red Sea over the past two years reinforce the hypothesis that any American military move to open the Strait of Hormuz is impossible to succeed at the present time.
The experts explained that Sana’a forces managed, over the past two years, to impose a total ban on the passage of Israeli ships in the Red and Arabian Seas, targeting more than 200 ships linked to Israel, the US, and Britain, including three ships that were sunk.
They considered this experience a practical model of the difficulty of securing maritime passages by military force with the introduction of new military tools into naval confrontations, namely missiles, drones, and unmanned boats.
They pointed out that the American calls, launched by US President Donald Trump, to form an international coalition and send warships to participate in what he described as “opening the Strait of Hormuz,” received little response, even from countries allied with Washington, reflecting an international awareness of the scale of risks and the complexity of the mission.
In a related context, military analyses addressed the options of the US Army to open the strait, where the use of heavy bombs exceeding five thousand pounds to target Iranian missile sites along the coast near the strait was mentioned.
However, experts affirmed that this option, even if successful, wouldn’t be sufficient to restore navigation safely.
They explained that even in a hypothetical scenario where Iranian naval capabilities are completely destroyed or even control is gained over the approximately 520-kilometer-long coastal strip, that would not prevent Iran from targeting ships, given its ability to launch missiles and drones from deep within its territory, including mountainous highlands.
