Attack on Gaza health facilities

The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO),Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stated that nearly 1,000 attacks on healthcare facilities have been recorded in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, resulting in the deaths of over 1,000 Palestinians and injuries to approximately 1,700 others.

In a statement posted on his X platform, Ghebreyesus explained that insecurity persists in Gaza despite the ceasefire, noting the continued suffering of the population due to displacement, inadequate water and sanitation services, malnutrition, disease outbreaks, and a lack of healthcare.

He pointed out that a medical supply storage facility adjacent to Al-Aqsa Hospital in the Gaza Strip was attacked over the weekend, damaging the facility and destroying essential medical supplies, including some provided by the WHO. The hospital building itself also sustained damage due to its proximity to the attack site.

The WHO Director-General called for the protection of healthcare facilities, emphasizing that they must not be targeted in attacks or used for military purposes.

Earlier on Monday, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, particularly the targeting of health facilities and the resulting civilian casualties.

In a joint statement, the three countries, as mediators in the ceasefire agreement, emphasized the need for Israel to comply with all its obligations under international law and to fully implement its commitments under the agreement.
