Saudi Arabia withdraws from direct confrontation with the Emirates in Yemen as America takes over the file
Saudi Arabia began withdrawing from direct confrontations with the Emirates in eastern Yemen on Tuesday, coinciding with the US taking over the file.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Informed sources in Hadramout reported that Riyadh announced the withdrawal of its delegation head from the oil plateau after approximately 14 days of his presence there to manage the file.
The sources confirmed that the decision to withdraw the head of the special committee, Mohammed Obaid Al-Qahtani, came as the implementation of the agreement for the withdrawal of Transitional Council factions arriving from outside Hadramout faltered.
Al-Qahtani’s withdrawal came within a large-scale withdrawal operation carried out by Saudi Arabia since the Emirates’ coup against it and the control of its factions over the eastern plateau of Yemen. The campaign included withdrawing even medical staff from the largest hospital in Aden and evacuating camps in southern and western Yemen.
It remains unclear whether Saudi Arabia’s termination of its political presence, or what remains of it, in eastern Yemen is part of arrangements for a military escalation or for de-escalation. However, its timing suggests it has decided to hand over the file to America, as the latter has begun intensive movement among Yemeni factions loyal to Saudi Arabia and the Emirates to close the file.
It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia had also halted its media campaigns against the Transitional Council, confining itself to threatening to stop support if forces did not rally around the Presidential Council, according to what the newspaper “Okaz” reported in its latest editorial calling on Yemeni forces to rally around its council.
