Saudi Arabia apologizes to Iran as strikes intensify and bin Salman seeks citizens help as defenses collapse
On Monday, Saudi Arabia attempted to mitigate the aerial attacks against it with an indirect apology to Iran, while the Saudi defense minister confirmed the collapse of its defenses.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Saudi Arabia issued a statement from a responsible source denying what American media reported about Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman advising US President Donald Trump to continue bombing Iran. The statement was published by Saudi channel “Al-Hadath.”
The Saudi denial came amidst powerful strikes the Kingdom was subjected to in recent hours. The Saudi Ministry of Defense counted nearly 100 attacks with ballistic missiles and drones during the last 24 hours, the largest of their kind in the history of the confrontations raging for weeks.
Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman confirmed the collapse of his country’s defensive systems, and in a tweet on his official page, called on citizens to report via the “Tawakkalna” app any sightings of drones or ballistic missiles, a task supposedly handled by air defenses.
Although Saudi Arabia was subjected to attacks during the past weeks of the war on Iran, it was the least compared to the rest of the Gulf countries.
The escalation of aerial attacks came as America revealed further Saudi involvement. The “New York Times” published a report from behind the scenes of Trump and Bin Salman’s call re-presenting the advice of the late King Abdullah regarding “hitting the snake’s head.”
Through its denial, Saudi Arabia is trying to reduce the brunt of the attacks on it, especially amidst indications of a greater escalation in the coming period.
