American Saudi Pressures on Egypt to Engage in the War

The US and Saudi Arabia began attempts on Thursday to pressure Egypt to engage in the regional war.

The American and Saudi administrations devoted extensive attention to highlighting the Damietta Port incident, where two US-owned liquefied gas storage ships caught fire.
Saudi Arabia tried to hint at backing away from its plan to export oil through the Sidi Kerir port on the Mediterranean Sea. Saudi media, citing unnamed sources, claimed that the alleged drone attack reflects an Iranian message about the ability to carry out wide-scale operations against distant targets, apparently referring to the targeting of oil tankers expected to start exporting Saudi oil through Egyptian ports on the Mediterranean.
In the US, President Donald Trump hinted in a statement that Iran was behind the attack that targeted two gas ships in Damietta Port.
These American-Saudi pressures come a day after Egypt refused to describe the attack as a drone strike, with the Egyptian Ministry of Energy merely speaking of a fire in one ship’s engines that spread to another, while the Egyptian Cabinet confirmed that no party had claimed responsibility for the attack. Egyptian experts, in television comments, tried to avoid attempts to forcefully drag Egypt into confrontations, whether with Iran or others, by hinting at third parties wanting to confuse matters.
The attack, which occurred late on Wednesday evening, caused a large fire at the American gas facility.
The attack comes as regional and international parties, led by Saudi Arabia and America, are trying to rearrange the situation in the region through military alliances in preparation for what appears to be wide-scale regional confrontations.
