American and Israeli officials to the New York Times Iran s ability to strangle the Strait of Hormuz exceeded our expectations
The New York Times quoted American and Israeli officials on Sunday as confirming that Iran’s ability to strangle the Strait of Hormuz and expand the scope of the war exceeded their expectations, in a new acknowledgment of the military and intelligence failures in assessing the battle.
Exclusive Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
The officials explained that “the mission of escorting commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz may take weeks before it becomes feasible,” in an implicit admission of the US forces’ inability to secure the strategic passage through which one-fifth of global oil supplies pass.
They pointed out that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ignored the advice of US President Donald Trump and the commander of Central Command and proceeded to target Iranian oil depots.
An American official explained that Netanyahu’s vision was that burning oil tanks would create chaos within the Iranian leadership, but the result was completely the opposite.
American officials also suggested that the Revolutionary Guard might retain nuclear fuel as a negotiating card, to be used in crucial stages to push Washington to retreat, in another acknowledgment that Iran still possesses strategic power cards.
