American RAND Center The Houthis Possess Influential Cards in the Regional Conflict

The American RAND Research Center believes that the Ansar Allah movement “the Houthis” possess influential cards in the regional conflict, indicating that they have demonstrated skill and intelligence in choosing the timing of engaging in or escalating conflicts, driven by their keenness on their interests.

The center said in a report that “the Houthis see in the current phase an opportunity to strengthen their negotiating position with Saudi Arabia, seeking to reach a political settlement to the war in Yemen.”
It indicated that the international community must deal with the “Houthis” as an active party that acts “pragmatically” and makes its decisions based on its interests.
The center noted that “the Houthis enjoy a position that allows them to influence the course of the next phase of the conflict between the United States and Iran,” after achieving their advance on the western coast of the Red Sea.
The center explained that with the actual closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, the “Houthis” are now in a position where they enjoy exceptional strength, especially after their control of the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait.
