America reveals details of a new base on Yemen s western coast and its objective

The US revealed, on Monday, details of a new base on Yemen’s western coast.

The American “Associated Press” agency quoted unnamed sources as saying that the base is the second in the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait and is located on Zuqur Island.
It confirmed that the base belongs to what it described as the countries allied against the “Houthis” and is part of the pressures exerted on them.
The sources considered the new base part of a network of bases in the vital area for maritime shipping, confirming the completion of a previous base on Mayyun Island, another on Dhubab, and a fourth on Abd Al-Kuri Island at the confluence of the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea.
The agency indicated that the new base might enhance aerial surveillance capabilities over the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, which link the most important international maritime shipping lanes.
The UAE, which manages the base construction operations, declined to comment, according to the agency.
According to the agency’s reporting, based on an analysis of satellite data, the runway extends to approximately two thousand meters on the island, which rises 90 meters above sea level, allowing for the landing of giant cargo aircraft.
The images clarified that the runway appeared to have been paved last August, before the process of painting it as an airstrip began this month.
