The head of the Sana’a negotiating delegation, Mohammed Abdulsalam, stated on Monday that the decision by Sana’a forces to impose a ban on maritime navigation for the Saudi regime came after peaceful options were exhausted, affirming that this step was “forced upon Yemen” as a result of Riyadh’s refusal to respond to Yemeni demands regarding ending the siege and addressing the repercussions of the war.

Abdulsalam explained in a statement that Saudi Arabia was given sufficient time to implement the peace entitlements, but it chose, according to his expression, procrastination and betting on the factor of time instead of fulfilling its commitments, pointing out that the Yemeni people have endured years of suffering in the hope of reaching peaceful solutions away from military escalation.
He added that Riyadh has, since the 2022 truce, dealt with the war’s effects as a “purely internal Yemeni affair,” despite its direct responsibility for it, considering that this approach constituted one of the most prominent obstacles to any comprehensive settlement.
He pointed out that the recent aggression on Sana’a International Airport, and the accompanying threats of continuing the siege, clearly revealed that Saudi Arabia is behind the obstruction of the airport and the naval blockade, explaining that the restrictions imposed on ships heading to Hodeidah port have caused an increase in the cost of imports, reflected in the prices of goods for citizens.
Abdulsalam affirmed that Saudi Arabia’s belief in the possibility of continuing the siege indefinitely is a “losing bet,” noting that the million-man demonstrations witnessed in the Yemeni governorates last Friday reflected the end of the deadline given to Riyadh, and that it bears the consequences of any escalation. He stressed that the “siege-for-siege” equation represents a natural and legitimate response to the continuation of Saudi measures.
